COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVE

Teen Feed

Teen Feed works with the community to address basic needs, build strong relationships, and ally with homeless youth as they meet their future off the streets. Teen Feed is a free, healthy dinner for homeless youth ages 13 – 25, five nights every week in Seattle's University District. We serve up to 70 homeless young people each night – that's over 11,000 dinners each year.

4 things you can do right now to get involved with Teen Feed:
  1. Do you dread the northwest winter? Host a tube sock drive! Homeless youth wear through warm socks quickly in Seattle’s cold, wet winter – and when your feet are cold, you are cold.
  2. Have Friday nights free? Teen Feed is expanding to Friday nights starting in January. We need warm and extroverted adults to serve as Advocates – eating dinner with and being a listening ear for youth at Teen Feed.
  3. Are you an excellent cook? Do you know how to warm up a hot pocket? Organize a group of 7 – 15 friends/coworkers/family to cook and serve a meal for 70 homeless youth at Teen Feed.
  4. Enthusiastically wearing a Christmas sweater? Your kitchen smells like Rugelach? Keep up the cheer and be a Secret Santa for a young person living on our streets! Act fast! Youth are being sponsored now ..

Audioasis Community Partnerships Initiative

About Community Partnerships

KEXP’s Audioasis local music program designed this initiative to create connections between KEXP listeners and deserving local charities. The hope is that these connections will result in an increase in awareness of the mission and work of local organizations and the impact they have on the larger community.

The 2009 Application cycle is now closed. Please check back to this website in Oct 2009 to learn about 2010.

Decisions will be made by a KEXP employee review team led by John Richards, host of the Morning Show and Associate Program Director, and Melissa Collett, Community Outreach.

Contact Information: Questions about applications can be directed to melissa@kexp.org, 206 520-5862.

Application FAQs & Tips

I want KEXP to promote my fundraising/community event
The vision of the Community Partnerships program is to create a connection between our listeners and the local non-profit organizations. We recommend that you focus your promotions on how the community can get involved in your organization. We do not recommend you use this program to promote a specific event.

If you are interested in KEXP sponsoring your event, visit the Event Sponsorship page.

Another option is to utilize KEXP Underwriting.

What Makes a Good Application?
KEXP wants you to promote the mission of your organization in the best way you know how. There are no tricks we’re looking for. The top three things which help the most are following the application instructions, Having an understanding of KEXP and being flexible

Who Picks The Winners?
Each year KEXP has a committee of employees and volunteers who represent different departments who get together to choose the organizations. The team is led by John Richards and Melissa Collett, a volunteer who runs the program. The team works together to choose a diverse group of non-profits and to identify types of organizations which have been underrepresented in past years. This team does not come into the meetings with an idea of who they are going to choose. It is a collaborative effort to make sure a cross-section of the community is represented. Sometimes that means that amazing programs that everyone likes did not get chosen. It also means that every year the diversity will look a little different.

In the guidelines it says “preference will be given to” – what does that mean?
KEXP wants to focus on small non-profits which traditionally can not afford to pay for the type of promotions this program offers. KEXP also wants to represent good causes. KEXP will sometimes choose organizations which have budgets over $2 Million. If you have the time to write the application, please apply.

Auctions and in-kind donations
In general, KEXP does not give away items for raffles or auctions.
